About Our Church

The Immaculate Conception Church in Chormepet, Chennai, is indeed a Catholic church dedicated to the belief in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chenglepet, Tamil Nadu, it serves as a spiritual center for Catholic Christians in the area.St. Francis Xavier's Church in Pallavaram served as the primary parish church from Chromepet to Tambaram until Dharkast. The construction of the Immaculate Conception Church began during the Marian year celebration in 1954.

After 50 years, on the occasion of the church's golden jubilee in 2010, significant damage to the building prompted Rev. Father A. Michael Raj, serving as Parish Priest at the time, to initiate efforts for its demolition and reconstruction.

On April 21, 2010, the foundation stone for the new church was laid by Most Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan, the Bishop of Chingleput. Subsequently, on April 13, 2012, the new church was consecrated by Most Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan, together with Most Rev. Dr. Lawrence Pius, the Bishop of Dharmapuri. Inside the consecrated altar of this church, the Holy Relic of Apostle Jude Thaddeus, the Patron Saint of Hope, is enshrined.

At Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, a statue depicts Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at a well. It symbolizes hospitality, compassion, and the universal love of God. Positioned near the water well on the church campus, it reminds visitors to emulate the Samaritan woman's kindness and openness to others, regardless of differences, fostering reflection on faith and spiritual growth.

In 2021, upon becoming the parish priest at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church,
Rev. Fr. G. Backiya Regis, also serving as Vicar Forane of Pallavaram Vicariate, envisioned constructing the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel on the church campus. This chapel, operational 24/7, provides a sacred space for prayer in the presence of the Lord, addressing spiritual needs at any hour. The ALL TIME MERCY CHAPEL was blessed and inaugurated on December 8, 2022, by former Parish Priests
Rev. Fr. A. Michael Raj, Rev. Fr. A. Edwin Lawrence, and Rev. Fr. A. Gnanamuthu, commemorating the Parish's Diamond Jubilee (1960-2020).

The Immaculate Conception Church offers regular Mass services, administering sacraments like baptism, confirmation, confession, marriage, and anointing of the sick. Additionally, it's active in community outreach, hosting charitable programs and social events to support the local population. The church also runs ministries and programs for parishioners, including religious education for all ages, youth groups, and activities fostering spiritual growth and community engagement.

The Church conducts “ANNADHANAM”, providing a daily lunch meal to those in need. This compassionate initiative is made possible through sponsorships by individuals, who either sponsor meals regularly or offer them on special occasions according to their intentions.
